Alan Thomas


Alan is Principal trumpet of the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London. Prior to this he was Principal trumpet of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra 2003-2012.

He’s also has a strong passion for brass chamber Music being a founder member of ‘Septura’ and a member of Onyx Brass Quintet.

He’s is Associate Head of Brass at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Trumpet Professor at the Royal College of Music, London and Trumpet tutor for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

Alan’s career was launched by winning the Shell London Symphony Orchestra competition 1999, performing the Hummel Concerto at the Barbican with the LSO in final.
